Drilling Shears Hydraulic Press Milling & Lathe Welding Onsite Installation
Drilling
Hardings Steel is dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of services for all of our clients throughout the Lower Mainland. We own leading edge equipment that allows us to satisfy the needs of every project. Among our various metal fabrication tools is a radial arm drill, which allows us to drill and tap holes into a metal component. This is an integral part of the metal fabrication process.
Drilling vs Tapping
Our Workmanship
The radial arm drill at Hardings Steel is capable of drilling and tapping two-inch holes into any section of a metal component. With over 50 years of experience creating lasting steel solutions, you can trust the team at Hardings Steel to provide superior workmanship and friendly service for all of your metal fabrication needs.
Shears
How it works
Often Shearing is one of the first steps in the manufacturing process, for a variety of metal projects. Just like scissors are used to cut paper, shears use cutting blades and substantial force to break the metal workpiece into smaller pieces. This allows our metal workers to remove excess material and create the initial shape of the part. Some other processes use lasers and plasma to make cuts. However, the heat involved can melt or burn the steel and distort the finished product. That’s why we use shears at our North Vancouver metal shop.
Increased Precision
Hydraulic Press Break
How it works
First, the sheet is slotted into a notch on the machine. Then, a ram is used to press on the metal until it bends into place. When working with sheet metal, the press brake can be adjusted to create a wide variety of bends. The computerized controls of the hydraulic press brake work to ensure that every bend is precise and to the satisfaction of our clients throughout Vancouver. Our machine can handle material to a maximum length of 11′ and a maximum sheet thickness of 3/8″.
Bending Vs Welding
In many cases, it is preferable to bend a piece into the appropriate shape, rather than welding two or more pieces together. Welding can be a much more time-consuming process than using the press brake. Additionally, welded joints may not provide the same structural integrity as a single piece that has been bent into shape.
Milling & Lathe Machine
Milling and lathing are both subtractive manufacturing processes. It creates small, detailed custom parts by cutting material away from a larger piece until only the finished subpart is left. The unique advantage of the milling & lathe machine at our metal shop, is that it can cut detailed three-dimensional shapes. From large structures, requiring onsite welding and installation, to smaller and more intricate designs, the sheet metal experts at Hardings Steel are fully equipped to handle projects of all shapes and sizes.

Welding
Welding Services
Welding is often, but not exclusively, among the last steps in the fabrication process. Using a blowtorch, our expert metal workers fuse two or more parts together to create a single, sturdy component. Some projects will require remote final assembly, which is why we also offer onsite welding and installation to our clients. We will take the time to ensure your product is installed properly and won’t leave until you are completely satisfied.
Quality Workmanship
The team of skilled metal workers at Hardings Steel have over 50 years of experience and always take the time to ensure the complete satisfaction of every client. No matter how large or small the project, we have the expertise to make sure it gets done efficiently while creating a lasting product. From initial design to fabrication of the finished product, we can bring your big idea to life.
Onsite Welding & Installation
At Hardings Steel, every job is custom tailored to fit the specifications and needs of the client. Frequently, this includes onsite installation of the finished product and additional welding. No matter how large or small your project, Darren Harding and his team will make the installation quick and painless. We are happy to provide onsite welding and installation to businesses through Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
Preparation
Before anything is built, the team at Hardings Steel will take the time to inspect the site of the installation. This is to ensure your finished project will be delivered and installed without difficulty. It’s important to know ahead of time if there are any tight doorways that won’t fit the fully assembled structure. In such cases, we can fabricate the parts in our North Vancouver workshop and then bring our tools on the road to complete the installation using onsite welding. The fine precision of our water jet cutting machine will ensure every part fits perfectly.
Client Satisfaction
We are dedicated to complete customer satisfaction with all of our work. That’s why we offer CAD design to help our clients visualize their idea and create a detailed blueprint. This also includes the final assembly of the project. Our friendly team of expert engineers will work hard to finish the installation and won’t leave until you are completely happy with the finished product.

Custom Precision
Water jet cutting gives you the freedom to create custom parts and the confidence to know they will fit perfectly. We also offer expert CAD design services to help make your vision a reality. Our expert designers can work with you to generate a detailed blueprint, which is then programmed into the Omax 1530 to ensure every cut is exact.
CAD Design
We provide comprehensive metal fabrication for all applications. Rather than contracting multiple companies to design, manufacture and install your project, we can do all three on time and on budget. If you don’t already have a design blueprint for your project, the expert engineers at Hardings Steel can create one using CAD design.
What is CAD?
CAD stands for Computer Aided Design, a process used across a wide variety of industries to help clients visualize their project and provide a detailed blueprint for the manufacturer. Using software like SolidWorks and AutoCAD, we can generate both 2D and 3D models of your concept. Including detailed measurements.
The Design Process
The first step in the design process is to request a free estimate from Hardings Steel. This will help our expert engineers better understand what you’re looking for and allow us to provide an educated estimate about your project’s production cost. From there, we can work with rough sketches, photographs, or partial designs to fully conceptualize your idea in a 3D environment. With detailed CAD design, we can also identify and correct any structural problems prior to manufacturing. Once we have an initial design, we will continue to work with you to modify the design until you are completely satisfied.
